Here is my cute boy in the day.
Here is my cute boy at night after 3 hours in the Emergency Room
He looks good here. I know that's hard to believe. His face was HUGE 4 hours before this.
Poor boy!
And here is the cause of it all.
HE IS ALLERGIC TO PEANUT BUTTER!
Well that night as we were coming home from Cameron and Traci's and Cooper fell asleep on the way home. We stopped at my parents before we headed up the hill. Cooper opened his eyes are started crying. I didn't think anything of it. So we head up the hill with Cooper crying the whole way. I was trying my best to calm him down but it wasn't working. I look at him and I said " Dang Brach his lip looks swollen." We finally get him and Brach was so done with Cooper's crying. We all hop out of the car and Brach opens Cooper's side of the car and he says "WHAT IS WRONG WITH HIS FACE?" I was like what are you talking about. His eye was completely swollen shut and his lips were HUGE. I am totally calm still and Brach has already started out in Freak Out mode. If you know Brach he does not stay calm in these situation. So I run him a bath thinking maybe it will help. All the while Brach is yelling at me and telling me to get in the car we are leaving. I tell him to go get Beneydol. I tried calling STUPID Kaiser for the nurses line and they wouldn't answer. Brach kept saying what are we going to do. I started panicking and said " Call 911." So Brach got on the phone with 911 and in 5 minutes I had 5 men in my front room hooking Cooper up to go in the ambulance. His breathing was really bad too. So we hurry and get down to Saint B's and they take him in and monitor him and gave him lots of good stuff to help him calm down. It was probably one of the scariest moments of my short motherhood. His face was HUGE and he was just drooling down his face because his tongue and lips were so huge. With in those 3 hours Cooper had 6 visitors come to the hospital. So that is how we found out Cooper was allergic to peanut butter. I was the one that was giving him little pieces of the DUMB candy bar and not thinking about the peanut butter in it. DUMB, DUMB, DUMB!

Food allergies are sooo scary. You never know what is going to happen next. I am glad you called 911 and everything was ok. We found out Noah was allergic to tree nuts after I gave him butter pecan ice cream. After a few bites he looked at me and was all red and coughing uncontrollablly and complaining he couldn't breathe and needed a breathing treatment. I swear i probably poured a quarter of a bottle of benadryl into him and hooked him up to his nebulizer as fast as I could. Lucky I was calm in the moment because as soon as he could breath again I started crying and called Ben and told him I could have killed Noah feeding him STUPID butter pecan ice cream. At least we all know better. Good luck with Cooper allergies suck!!!

I totally understand ya on that one. Zach has the same allergy. Except that we weren't that lucky to find out on our trip to the ER. We even told them he had some rice from a chinese place. He was about 18 months old when that happened. Now we get to carry an epi pen with us where ever we go. Side note...peas are in the same family as peanuts, so beware. Zach's 2nd exposure was peas and that is when we found out about his allergy. Good luck!!!

wow! i never even thought to check my kids for food allergies when they were babies .... not too smart of me seeing as things like this could have happened (or worse!) if they did have them! glad he's ok & hope it's not too hard for you to keep the peanuts away!
